Cleverly Conjured (Blog marathon post 28)

© 2009 Preeti Shenoy

Cleverly conjured words

That sound perfectly right

Hang in the air like lanterns at dusk

On a dark and moonless night.

You whisper them softly

Like cotton wisps they float

Making me light and wanton with desire

Striking just that perfect note.

But in the harsh glare of morning

They don’t hold their weight

They’re hollow as they’re empty

False , shallow and now also irate.

Coffee I ask, with a forced smile

As false and warm as the words you said

Suddenly it is important to pretend

So I push away the gloom with the accompanying dread.

But long after you’ve gone, satiated,

Your presence still hanging in the air,

I sit alone contemplating, ruminating

Still searching for meanings that were never there.

You know what, you are my inspiration to write poems. I'm still learning though :P

And you know what, thank you for giving me the idea of writing (c) and do not copy below the poem. I decided to got for it after I indeed had one of my poems copied :|

I really do not know what magic you have that you simply string together some simple words and weave out something that is "fantabulous".

I have to ask a question regarding copyright. Is it simply enough to put copyrighted below the post or you have to actually register it?? i do have some work planned and feel simply adding copyrighted may not be enough!

Thanks for the morning dose :) :)

cheers
Shantharam

Beautiful Preethi:-))!!!!!!

Preeti Shenoy said...

Reflections: Thank U Nancy. You really have been one of my biggest 'encouragers'. Much appreciate it.

Arnab: Thank you. Appreciate your letting me know.

Nidhi: thank u!

Shantharam: Thank you. Different countries have different laws regarding copyright. It is complicated. If you google it you'll get all the info you seek.

partywithneha: As flattering as it is supposed to be, to be copied, I really abhor it. I cherish individuality. Glad to 'inspire' you..Did notice that you put a graphic and a copyright symbol exactly in the same manner that I do for all my poems. Therefore I have felt this compelling urge to change my format in presenting my poems.

Santasizing: Thank you so much.

Ashwini: i wish you were Bon Jovi or aerosmith! :P :) Thanks for that fabulous compliment.

Monika; thank you so much.

Ajay: Thank you :)

Hmmmm...while I read your poem, I'm imagining myself sitting in a cafe sipping espresso, staring in space and thinking. Why? I don't know :)

Beautiful. I love your imagination.

Yes, the same words can travel those distances and you are left wondering whether it is the time that give them their meaning and significance. And yes there always are actors involved too.
And I think it was more about beautifully conveying those very thoughts, than the imagination, that is so remarkable about the poem :).

Rayne said...

Beautifully done. It feels like there is a deep story behind this. Like the characters need to speak.

WannabeWriter said...

Lovely! And so true... some things do seem so different and hollow in the light of the day! Very nicely put!

Preeti Shenoy said...

Wannabe writer: Thank you!

Rayne: Yes they need to, But pride gets in the way. Thank u.

Brown Phantom: Aren't we all actors--just a little bit? (A large bit for some)--and thank you :)

beautiful... sometimes its best that she/he is gone the next morning... then you don't have to keep up the pretense! :)

Hi Preeti, I have changed the "copyright" message on my poems. Since the copyright message is a universal symbol, I am unable to change it :|
