A love letter (Blog marathon post 19)

When I first came across the above lines, I was filled with a sense of marvel, which happens rarely. Then I saw the movie. It is adapted from the ten issue comic book series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd.

There are many brilliant scenes in the movie. But perhaps, what moved me most was a love letter written on a Toilet paper roll from a prison.

It begins with the lines

"
I don't know who you are. Please believe. There is no way I can convince you that this is not one of their tricks. But I don't care. I am me, and I don't know who you are, but I love you. "

It ends with the lines

"I don't know who you are. Or whether you're a man or a woman. I may never see you or cry with you or get drunk with you. But I love you. I hope that you escape this place. I hope that the world turns and that things get better, and that one day people have roses again. I wish I could kiss you."

It convinces me what millions of people have felt, experienced and thousands of artists and poets have tried to convey--Love is so powerful an emotion, that it can achieve anything. It does not matter between whom, what gender, what ages ,what time period. Sometimes Love is truly all that you need.

And of course the right words to express what you feel.

Hey! I just loved the letter and really want to read the books or movie whichever I can lay my hands on.
As far as love is concerned you have said it really well. Love just makes everything possible. I really like the way Kahlil Gibran talks of love in The Prophet. The way love is, we can all talk about it in endless ways because "love simply is".

so true sometimes love is all that you need but so few people are lucky enough to get it.

Saw the video (honestly I had to go thru the dictionary for the meaning of 2,3 words:))
Read the entire letter..Very Deep..!!

I also love the 'HOPE' letter in the climax of Shawshank Redemption..Even though its not as heavy and deep as the 'V' letter it carries a strong message,I feel.

Geetha: Shwashank is one of my all time favs too! The full impact of Valerie's letter is understood only when you watch the movie.

Shades of grey: It is from 'V for Vednetta'.Wondered what u meant when u said U'd look it up again.

Srivats: I too really liked the move 'Love actually'. What is LGBT? (Too lazy to google it:P)

Ajay: :) Only you noticed the last line. It is the most important line in the post, me thinks. And to whom may i ask I am speaking with? :-)

Kishore shetti: Many get it I think--sometimes they don't recognise it.

Fantastic pick :). The movie is one of the best I've watched in recent times.
I don't see any signs of fatigue as the marathon continues. And need I say anything in praise of love :).

Well the letter is Vow... And I actually saw the movie and failed to comprehend it miserably....
:-(

But as its indicative that you enjoyed it, We have quite different tastes when it comes to movies :-)

Prats: Yeah! I know many who hated the movie or found it just average. My children loved it--and I think half of my mind was made up then--anything they like I do too!

V for Vendetta was a powerful graphic novel as was Watchmen.. both had such amazing viewpoints on life and love.. the movie missed so much that was in the novel and yet I know so many who loved it.. for me, personally, I still get goosebumps watching that 'Dominoes falling' sequence.

Ironic that people refer to such adult themed books as 'Comics', doncha think ?

It's a beautiful letter for sure...without love..what are we?

Its a beautiful letter...made more thoughtful by the fact that the writer just loves the person w/o knowing anything about this person - even whether its a man or a woman
