Hamster,Mrs.Hamster and child

Really sorry--I have had to remove this post as it will soon appear in a book. Making it available online would have been very unfair to my publisher who has placed so much trust in me. I hope you enjoy the other posts as much as you enjoyed this one. A heartfelt thanks for your support and understanding. Thanks for continuing to read what I write.

  1. They are really adorable. I think it's so wonderful for children to have pets. It teaches them responsibility and also lets them love.

  2. As I said recently on my blog, I have had pets nearly all my life and they really do enrich it. I think it's great that your children had these little hamsters. There are many important lessons to be learn from caring for another living thing :-)

  3. Oh, they are adorable! (Your children, too.) When we lived in Germany we had a hamster named Benji who was absolutely wonderful. Such personality and just so cute to watch.
When we first got her I was terrified of her and used to pick her up in a soup ladle. I would put the ladle in the cage and she would solemnly step in so I could pick her up and I would give her sunflower seeds and talk to her, then started petting her and before I knew it I was carrying her around on my shoulder every where.
You are right, pets are a wonderful part of our lives. It's odd, I have found that I don't get along well with avowed animal or pet haters even before I know how they feel.

  4. Oh, what a sweet post :)
I loved the story of Chunnu Munnu - great names! - and it's so great that they had a baby, how sweet :) And I didn't know they had such a filled social life ;)
I had two hamsters when I was little, but one at the time, I used to let them walk around the house, they would get to the strangest places and sometimes I lost them. hehe
Even though I really liked them, I don't remember being particularly sad when they died (well, one was upsetting because he just disappeared and we never found him again)...The same thing won't happen with my dog, I've had him for 15 years now, when he goes it'll be like losing a family member, I'm sure :(

  5. We had a Hamster which would escape and disapear for days..so to capture him, we built a small staircase out of books leading up to the top of a waste paper bin..over this we put a piece of paper folded lenghtwise to strengthen it then placed food in the middle ..we knew 'Merry' would get hungry and come out in search of food..he would reach over onto the paper and would fall in the bin...guess what?...it worked!

Hey Preeti those are very cute pictures of your children holding hamsters.Really...loosing your pet is like loosing your best friend...that reminds me of the Hermit crabs my son used to have a year ago[cutie, feety,Chilly& Macroni :)]...which died one after another....took almost a week to get over with his sad feelings. Now he is trying to find them in his backyard pets!( snails,Beetles...)

  8. well...I dunno about you..but I think they are rats... of all those movies I see with hamsters being those white and black patched furry things on wheels...these..they look like rats...

and well, those who want to experience something better than a pet..get a baby..its the same thing...babies last longer... and they get their potty training pretty soon...
rest is the same...feed em ..clean em..take them for a walk..
the big difference is...pets don't go to college...but babies..oh they grow up, go to college, and that nice beach-house you were thinking of buying..the cash for that goes for their education..ahahaha..

am in a very..light mood right now...must be the alcohol..didn't ahve much..but who knows...maybe the summer heat somehow increased my blood flow by making the veins expand(things expand in the heat) and thereby making the alcohol reach my brain before it gets nullified.

  9. Katherine,Bob-kat:I agree 100 percent.Pets are so important to teach caring, responsibility and much more.

Rayne:Thank you!Benji sounds so adorable. It irks me when people who dont like animals refer to them derogatorily--or make fun of them.So many do.

Devil Mood:I too love dogs.Hamsters were just a very poor substitute for a dog which my kids have been pestering me to get.I grew up with two dogs and i know how hard it is to lose them.

Niall:How clever!!Wish I had met you when I had chunnu munnu. They used to do the disppaearing act so often--and we would be hunting for them.

    Madhavi:Hermit crabs!Wow.Sounds good.

Freelance:Yep--we used to have fish too.

Hershey:Yes,they look like rats--but they dont have tails. They are much cuter. And they have cheek pouches to store food--and they are so smart!

Mr.Fab:I know you can relate--because i know how much you love your rabbits.

  11. ask me about the hamsters too and what I went through looking after them. when PS and the kids were on vacation guess who had to look after the hamster ?? and with me being scared of going anywhere near them and them running all around the place if they got out, I had to slowly feed them from the top of the cage so that they dint make a grab for my hand. They are cute from far but for a non animal lover its scarey when they run around the house and you dont know how to catch them. And then there was the time we went to the market to purchase vegetables (not for me - for the hamster of course) But I guess the only reason I put up with the whole thing without a complaint was that my son loved them and yes they were cute (from far).

i agree, first of all no other name than 'chunnu-munnu' could have been more apt :-) ... second, surely, people who dont like animals do miss a lot in life :-) ...just like you i am too an animal lover!

  14. It also reminds me of the rat in the movie the Green mile. How the convict on death row is shattered when a mean cop kills it and then how his eyes fill with tears of happiness when it comes to life again..... Lovely movie and lovely snap ps....
